Press Release According to an article in COPA (Jan 2003), Ultralights accounted for 59% of the growth in privately registered aircraft in Canada for the last three years, October 1999 to October 2002. Total change was an increase of 682 aircraft for a 2.4% increase. The whole Canadian fleet grew from 28038 to 28720. The stats are from Transport Canada. 91% of the growth was in privately registered aircraft. The commercial fleet increased by 68 aircraft. Three quarters of the fleet growth was due to the addition of more airplanes, while new helicopters made up 17%. Owner-Maintenance aircraft grew to 185. Amateur built aircraft (year 2002) number 2775. Ultralights, Owner-Maintenance and Amateur built aircraft make up 7700, or over a quarter of the aircraft in Canada. Basic ultralights lead the way with 38%, and AULA made up 21%.
